Recent gazetted amendment in IS 3614: 2021 :
In 2021 the IS code for Fire-rated Doors IS 3614 was revised. The insulation of doors was diluted to 30 minutes, which as per our understanding caused an immense threat to the Fire Safety of dwellings that rely on passive fire safety mechanisms for safe escape or rescue. After almost 1.5 years of deliberations and several rounds, the inaccuracies of the hurried IS 3614 2021 have been removed by an Amendment in which DULY highlights the IMPORTANCE of Fully INSULATED Doors vis a vis Partially insulated (previously called Insulated in IS 3614 2021)
Many building safety advocates feel strongly that the metal door uninsulated door manufacturer should accept the Challenge thrown: Stand within 500mm of the unexposed surface of 30 mins partially insulated Fire door after 90 mins of Fire under test conditions. If the Uninsulated or partially insulated door manufacturer is not willing to risk his/her life in front of his/her product, how ethical is it to risk the escaping person who is relying on the fire performance of the STAIRCASE exit door and trying to get down from stairs with a landing of 1mtrs only? (e.g. Fire in the 2nd-floor corridor/lobby of a high-rise building, and people getting downstairs from the 20th floor.)
we hope it works in the best interest of residents, builders, and safety specialists
